Epinal American Cemetery

Établi en 1944, le cimetière Américain d'Epinal (nom officiel : World War II Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial) est l'un des 5 cimetières
Américains de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale en France.
D'une surface d'environ 22 hectares, il compte 5,252 tombes pour 5252 soldats  ainsi qu'un mur des disparus sur lequel est inscrit le nom de 424 soldats dont la dépouille n'a pas été retrouvée.
Il fut tout d'abord un cimetière temporaire qui comprenait 7752 soldats américains et, de façon très provisoire, 4891 soldats allemands.
Environ 30% des familles américaines feront le choix de rapatrier les corps des soldats.
Le cimetière devint permanent en 1956.

Established in 1944, the Epinal American Cemetery (official name : World War II Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial) is
one of the 5 WWII American Cemetery in France.

The surface area is of about 48.6 acres. 5,252 soldiers are buried there and 424 have their names on the Wall of the Missings.
Right after the end of WWII, the cemetery was temporary with 7,752 graves. Then the family had the choice to bring back the remains to the USA, 30% of the families will choose that option.
The cemetery became permanent in 1956.
